VPI - JMW- 9

VPI - JMW 9Reviewers have called the VPI Scout/JMW-9 combination
“A $1650.00 tonearm and you get the table for free”

We feel the JMW-9 is the best sounding tonearm under $1400.00 and very close to being one of the best arms you can buy, period.  When mated with a cartridge of 7 to 13 grams and compliance higher than 10 you will be rewarded with a spectacularly vivid presentation with the music ebbing and flowing as it does in real life.

Made from the finest material available, the JMW-9 uses precision CNC machining on all its parts to exacting tolerances.  All parameters of cartridge setup are adjustable including:

  • VTA/SRA – Set with a large knurled ring
  • Azimuth – Set with counterweight
  • Overhang – Supplied gauge
  • VTF – Set with counterweight
  • Horizontal tracking angle – Supplied gauge

For those that love to play with cartridges or to use a mono cartridge for perfect playback of those classic mono recordings the JMW-9 lets you purchase additional armtubes.  The cartridge is mounted to the armtube and completely set up.  The armtube can be exchanged in 30 seconds and there is no work to be done, just listening.

The JMW-9 is virtually friction free due to its precision unipivot design.  You no longer have to worry about bearing friction, bearing accuracy, bearing wobble, etc, it simply doesn’t exist.

You can also purchase the JMW-9 Anti-Skate Assembly as an accessory to the JMW-9

The quotes below show reviewers love it as much as we do and the Scout/JMW-9 is one of the best reviewed tables in the world.

“It’s a sound that runs through the range of JMW tonearms: A sound that gives you the shape and flow of the musical
dynamic. It’s a sound that I once described (in reviewing the original TNT) as meaty, beaty, big and bouncy, and I find it remarkable that a ‘table that uses such different technology and materials can still display such a heavy print of the company DNA. What I also find fascinating is the sophistication of the musical presentation. Using the JMW 12.5 on the Recovery tells me where that internal intricacy comes from. The impressive thing is the extent to which that capability is embodied in the cheaper arm and released by the simpler deck.”

“If you obey the instructions for the JMW-9, you can get arm set up that is accurate to the practical limits that the geometry of the stylus assembly in your cartridge makes relevant.”

“I do know that I haven’t enjoyed playing and listening to my records this much in many, many years. I can’t put a price on that, and considering what else I have to spend my money on (things that offer me no enjoyment — car insurance for one) then the Scout/JMW-9 has to be viewed as a bargain. Think of it as a long-term investment and a way to give your vinyl collection new life.”

“The JMW-9 unipivot tonearm features a machined cup on one end that rests upon a super-sharp tungsten-carbide point — sort of like balancing on the head of a pin. It works great and makes it a breeze to exchange arms if you like experimenting. An RCA junction box, which accepts any interconnects with RCA terminations, sits to the left of the tonearm. The tonearm also comes with a wire and connector (Lemo) that line up a red dot on a receptacle on the junction box. Align the Lemo connector, connect it and the cables to a pre-amp or receiver and you’re in business.”
