This weekend I'm going to be traveling to Seattle to introduce our two new dealers,Kosmic High Performance Audio, and Gig Harbor Audio. I realized it is only a stone throw away (3 hour drive) to one of our long standing dealers, Fred's Sound of Music. Fred's Sound has been part of the VPI family for over 20 years and knows their turntables! We have a great relationship and VPI staff members could spend all day on the phone with them. My mom Sheila would do just that with Bill White as a proud mother sharing way too much information about me. We are way overdue for a visit and Dealer Event so while I'm touring the area lets add one more to the dance card! Time to go for broke and make it to Portland to keep the VPI momentum in the area going! If anyone is in the Portland area May 7th make sure to come by Fred's Sound of music to talk turntables, listen to some fantastic music, and maybe hear some exciting stories!
When exhibiting at an audio show everyone has the same complaint, "this darn room sounds terrible... there is nothing I can do with this room! Damn this hotel and their terrible room treatment..." Not with the pros at Stillpoints! There is no hotel room they can't turn into an acoustic masterpiece in both sound and appearance. This year at Axpona 2017 they brought an Avenger with JMW 3D arm mounted using a bunch of Stillpoint accessories.
Stillpoints was using their room treatment panels which can be printed with any graphic on it including company logos. It was mounted in the back and sides of the room to keep from having any distorting reflections in the sound. For isolation purposes Stillpoint propped up their Avenger on some of their machined pucks. This cleaned up the noise floor and gave the audiophile passerby the ability to bang into the table, without anything skipping a beat?
Topped off, Stillpoint used their record weight instead of the VPI center weight. We are big fans of their record weight and often use/recommend it as a solid substitute for our record weight.
My favorite part about Stillpoints is Bruce Jacobs! He is not just an engineer, he is a teacher! I have had the chance to share demonstrations with him in Hong Kong and he explains the importance of room treatment, reflective vs absorbent material, and other nuances that have a major impact on a room. I've adjusted my room treatment based off of Bruce's advice and it made a world of difference. Very happy VPI was able to spin with Stillpint and the other partnered equipment at Axpona!
(To be honest, I was moving so fast I missed the rest of the gear they were using so if anyone knows please share in the comments below and I will gladly at it to the article!)
VPI Industries is very excited to be part of TWO NEW VPI Dealer events in Seattle Washington! Washington State has become a blind spot for VPI for almost 3 years now. About time to make VPI product more readily available in Washington State! The VPI Family welcomes Gigharbor Audio to represent VPI's entry level and core product line. Mat Weisfeld will be walking their store May 5th to meet the music lovers of Gigharbor and demo the VPI Player, Prime Scout, and Cliffwood Turntables! This will be the first dealer showing of the brand new Cliffwood! Pricing and pre-order ability will be available soon.

The VPI Family welcomes Kosmic High Performance Audio and Video to represent the VPI production and Reference line. VPI has been a void for VPI represenation for the past 3 years and we are excited to bring new life and blood into the area! Mat Weisfeld will be attending their May 6th event with the Pacific Northwest Audio Society.
"Mat Weisfeld, President of VPI Industries, will talk about VPI and demonstrate three turntables. VPI Industries Inc. is a family owned high-end audio manufacturer that was started by Sheila and Harry Weisfeld 35 years ago. Still family owned, it is run by Harry and his son Mat. Since taking over the day-to-day management of the company, Mat has redesigned the VPI lineup and introduced the Prime turntable, 3D-printed tonearms, and other significant business additions, like the Shinola and Mark Levinson tables. This should be a very interesting meeting with a great presentation!
Club members Gary Koh and Joe Pittman will set-up the three VPI turntables. This demo will include three of VPI’s latest turntables - the $2,200 Prime Scout, the $10,000 Avenger, and the $40,000 Limited Vanquish.
We will also be using three Genesis Phono Preamps and sets of three identical LPs so we can switch between turntables in real time. A turntable demo really doesn’t get better than this.
As an additional listening treat, Gary will play a real lacquer from his recent direct-to-disc recording of Anne Bisson’s new album, “Four Seasons in Jazz”, recorded at Bernie Grundman Mastering. This is definitely some "unobtanium", so don't miss this listening opportunity.Guests are welcome, so bring a friend along with you!
