My VPI Scout keep skipping

Hello everyone. I am new not only but to the VPI family as well. I bought a b-stock scout last January, and for a while I've been having a problem with records skipping. Now, this does not happens from the get go: sometimes I can listen a full album without having any problems. Maybe two, but by the third it starts skipping. I've checked VTA and VTF everything is as originally set (though i've made the whole setting at least 10 times by now). The last adjustment i did (today as a matter of fact) was to the arm lifter height. Yet I had the same problem by the second album. Anyone knows what the problem might actually be?

Any help will be immensely appreciated.

The counterweight should NOT be rotated that far from center. Something's way off somewhere. You can actually see the excessive tilt on the arm in the top photo. Is the headshell level with the rest of the arm? That arm is not happy.

Thanks for your reply Scott. As I mentioned in the original post, it is a b-stock version, and, yes, the arm looks different. The reason the counterweight sits like that is because the headshell is not aligned, but I can´t do much about it. I have wondered whether this might be related to my problem, but the fact that for a couple albums everything works fine makes think not.

If the arm has a defect I’d recommend first contacting VPI to see about getting that taken care of. After they take care of solving that problem, it’d be interesting to see if you still get skipping.

Hi Javier. Do you know if it has the stock arm? Can you send a picture of it showing the whole arm?

Hmm, I’m not quite sure that’s the original arm. I’m pretty sure the Scout was originally outfitted with a JMW9, but as I recall that was an all silver arm. But VPI has always had variations in arms. The thing that really strikes me is how far off axis the counterweight is rotated. That would suggest a serious off alignment of the cart and/or the stylus, to correct for such an off azimuth. Is it really that far off? I might wonder if the arm is sitting properly on the pivot point.

Ah. I see in pics online that other Scouts look to have the same arm.

I would start by centering the counterweight it seems to be pulling your arm to the left looking from the front of picture and see if that helps tracking
