Origin Live’s “Strata” Mat + Record Weight Work on My VPI!

Saw the “Audiophileman”’s recent YouTube review of the mat - scoring a unique 11/11 - and saw his follow up video on adding their weight for an even better sound, as suggested by his viewers. I bought both direct from the UK, and they could be returned if no good, as they are not cheap.

Happily this combination definitely improved the sound in different marginal but to me significant enough ways - especially more clarity, more space between the instruments and vocals, and a slightly wider soundstage.

Luckily I enjoy VPI’s Classic 3 with an Ortfofon Cadenza Black and several mods, such as a 12” 3D unipivot arm, VPI’s Reference wire in the arm and IsoAcoustic feet on top of a 4” MapleShade block, on top of 4 corner rubber and felt feet. I also use the Scout ‘speed controller’ combo (similar to VPI’s SDS).

Yes, I try to wring…

Building Static Charge

Anybody else encountering tremendous static electric charges building between the record and platter? I'm finding it happening, more frequently with new records, on occasion. I have to pry up the record, the attraction is so great, and the sparks that jump are not doing my system any good. Why is the platter not grounded? Maybe there is there an issue of aluminum always having a non-conductive oxide surface? Do I have find a carbon fiber mat and rig a grounding brush on it's edge?

Jo No. 5 runs into clamp

I have an original Prime with the stainless-steel Delrin record clamp. I now have an E.A.T. Jo No. 5 cartridge. The cartridge runs into the clamp on the lead-out groove and keeps skipping back. This can't be good for my cartridge, my speakers or my nerves. What can I do short of having the clamp machined?

SDS with Naim Armageddon

Hello, I have a 60hz Linn LP12 motor on my Linn LP12, it is powered by a Naim Armageddon power supply. The Naim can only do 33.3 rpm. Was wondering if I added the VPI SDS, if I could then get 45 rpm, and make incremental speed changes?
