Trying to pull together a last-minute weekend getaway at the lake for my partner and our dog. We don’t want to over-plan, but I also don’t want to forget something obvious and end up driving around for stuff. Last time, I realized we didn’t bring towels until we were already halfway there. How do you all plan your trips so it’s fun and not stressful?

It’s the random stuff you forget that always trips me up—like extra chargers or a hat. I like the idea of having a checklist, but I never remember to use one until it’s too late. Lake getaways are always worth it though.
I’m all about making lake trips as low-stress as possible. What’s worked for us is booking everything online first—accommodations, boat rental, even spots to eat if you can. For our trip to Possum Kingdom, we used https://thecliffsmarina.com/ to get our rental sorted and saw they’re super close to The Inn at the Cliffs, so everything was easy walking distance. We brought a separate bag just for lake gear (sunscreen, towels, swimsuits, flip-flops), plus a bag for snacks and drinks. Having the marina mini-mart nearby helped a lot, especially when we realized we needed more water and ice.
