I have an Aries II with the frosted platter. I'm currently using the black threaded delrin record clamp. I have come to notice that the sound is somewhat livelier if using less force on the clamp or with no clamp at all. I would like to buy the signature weight but was curious how many people use this without the periphery ring. Is it even a good idea to use alone without the ring?

I use it without a ring, no issues so far, but generally I feel like you should be using the ring tho... They wouldn't put on in for no reason... I suppose its general recommendation(for example, its general rec to fully load mags for stuff like Mac 11, but it just reduces the strain on the spring, not specifically a "never do" rule).
I recommend using with the ring. nanopore sequencing
I think the benefit is stability. I use it 100% of the time - for the past 12 years! I like the ring also but the price of that now is rediculous. It came with my Classic 3 in 2012.
I use it without the ring quite a bit. No problems. Also use it with the ring when the LP is warped..
