I’ve been going back and forth for weeks now trying to decide which direction makes the most sense for a project I’m working on. It’s a fairly straightforward mobile app, but I want to make sure I don’t box myself in later. Native seems like the safest in terms of performance, but hybrid and especially Flutter look appealing because of the speed of development and the fact that I wouldn’t need two separate teams. Has anyone here actually dealt with this dilemma in real life and can share what worked best for them?

I can totally relate to your dilemma! Choosing the right approach for your project can be overwhelming. It's great that you're considering performance and development efficiency. I faced a similar choice once when developing a concept for a game, and I ended up leaning towards a hybrid model. Yeah, I’ve been in the same boat a couple of times. With native you definitely get the smoothest performance, but in most business apps you don’t really need to squeeze out every bit of power from the device, so the cost of two codebases can outweigh that advantage. I’ve worked on a fintech app where we started native, and maintenance became a nightmare once both platforms had to evolve differently. Later we switched to Flutter for another project in healthcare and, honestly, it was much easier to keep things consistent across iOS and Android. Flutter’s hot reload saved us a lot of time when we had to tweak UI elements after client reviews. If you’re curious, there’s a nice overview of the trade-offs here: Blackthorn Vision— they break down the pros and cons of different approaches in a way that’s easy to digest. Personally, I’d say go hybrid or Flutter unless your app is a heavy 3D game or you need something like deep AR/VR integration.
