So I came across these two terms — “caretaker” and “caregiver” — while reading up on home care for my neighbor’s dad, and I realized I honestly have no clue what the difference is. At first, I thought they meant the same thing, but now I’m not so sure. My neighbor asked me if I knew someone with experience in caregiving, and I didn’t know what exactly that involved. Like, is a caregiver more medical and a caretaker more about just being there? Or is it just a difference in wording? Curious if anyone has a simple way to explain it.

It's a great question, Edward! I've wondered the same thing. From my understanding, a caregiver implies more active support, perhaps assisting with medical needs or personal care, going beyond just supervision. A caretaker might focus more on upkeep and companionship. Thinking about it, caregiving seems more involved, like mastering a complex level in those addictive io games, requiring strategy and attention.
