16.5 cleaner tube holder help

Hello,

I got a different tube and tube holder for my 16.5 cleaning machine, I got the upgraded one with the ball that holds the tube. The new one with the ball does not allow the tube to go straight across the record, it goes at an angle vs the old one with no ball that goes straight across.

Does the one with the ball work with the older VPI 16.5 machines?

I have a little bit of swelling around that area so I added the tape to try and stop the water contact.

the bottom (with the bigger ring) was the older original one. The other one is the newer one. what does that one go to then? Is that for another model? Does anyone have a cutout of the cyclone?

by eye it looks like it lines up on the center pin but it does not seem to.

well not sure at this point if the holder is wrong i wonder what it is for then?

No i do not think it is at 3 o'clock. It looks a little lower, i included a pic taken of it. Were these in different positions on the 16.5? So do we have different tubes, tube holders and plinth holes on these? So does this machine not work with new 16.5 tube holders? Are they not standard?

Is there a way to fix?

That's the correct position for the stop pin. I have only seen this locations on 16.5. Not sure about the Cyclone. I have attached a picture of a 16.5 pickup wand. The notch cut out should match any plinth hole with a 3 o'clock stop pin. Post a picture of your two wand place similar to the one below

Hello thanks for the response. The old wand I have and the holder does not have the notch. It is the older one before the notch. So are the the wands all different between the 16.5 and others? i thought the wands were all the same except the tube holder? The two different for the cyclone and 16.5?

By notch, I mean the cut out at the bottom of the tube holder. Remove the tube holder and look straight down into the plinth hole, do you see a metal stop pin in the 3 o'clock position? This pin runs between the two shoulders of the tube holder notch and provides the horizontal travel stops.

You have the wrong wand for the 16.5. The bottom notch dictates the wand's range of motion. If the notch cut out is not identical to your old wand, then it simply won't work. If you draw a line down the length of the top of the wand and then drop it 90 degrees, that should be where the notch should end.

Hi @Mat Weisfeld - thank you for your help and response.

I believe it could be an earlier VPI 16.5. I have attached the badge from the back but i believe the SN is 9738.

I attached a pic of the old one and the new one together as well as a video showing the old one.

Are the notches in the tube holders different by a few mm?

How old is your cleaning machine, just to get an idea of when it was made and what that the issue might be. I'll look deeper into this to get you all squared away 😀
