Hey there. Just bought a new Signature Classic a month back, loving it however it's running slightly fast, anywhere from 1-2%. Now yes, I am using a phone based RPM meter so I know these aren't exactly scientific however my previous table always showed dead on 33/3 and the Classic is showing 33/55 consistently on average. I have adjusted the belt to the highest groove which keeps it at about 1.2% fast. Just wondering if there's any other adjustments that I can make to bring it down closer to 33/3?
Second question. Whats the rebuild cost on a SHYLA cart? (I'm in Canada).
Thanks!

Haha yeah I was kidding about the altitude, we're pretty close to sea level anyhow. All good.
Malone - you could be right. You are quite a ways further north (does that count as 'altitude'?), so the air could be thinner 'up there'. We did spend a bit of time running around in the Maritime Provinces a few weeks back, and did not particularly notice being short of breathe. But, maybe it only affects turntables. 😁
Good luck figuring it out.
Hey Glenn, yes that's the same app I use and I've tried two different phones with identical results using that app. So yeah, maybe the air is thinner in Canada? Perhaps my home is at a much higher altitude than I had previously thought?
Incidentally I grew up on Glen Davis Crescent so this is a pretty wild coincidence.
Also, try a different app on your phone (I use RPM Speed and Wow) and a different phone. See if they agree.
No help on the speed issue (unless you purchase an ADS), but you can have Steve Leung at VAS (next-door neighbor to VPI) rebuild your cartridge. Depending on how fancy you want to go with the stylus, will likely be $300-500. You can also contact Groove-Tickler on FB or google SoundSmith. They all do excellent work.
Hey there, it's brand new, bought from a VPI dealer in Toronto Canada, phone app is calibrated and it's always placed on the same spot. Previous table always showed 33/3 when tested, tried a second phone and got the same 1.5 - 2% quick. The belt is currently on the top groove of the pulley, that's the "slowest" spot on the pulley. Any lower groove and I'm running even quicker.
I'll keep messing with it, see where I can get it to land. Love the table though, not a huge issue.
You can also can try moving the belt up and down on the pulley to see if that has an impact.
Was the Classic Signature bought brand new or new to you?
If the latter, it could have an aftermarket belt with a slightly larger diameter than a stock VPI belt which would account for the speed varriance.....or it can be an old belt that lost some of its elasticity, therefore, maintaining a larger diameter during the adhesion zone of the pulley drive. Boiling the belt on hot water for 45 seconds can tempoarily rejuvate a belt's elasticity. Try this first.
Also, make sure that the phone app is calibrated and always place on the same spot on the platter.
