I have a VPI Classic Signature with an ADS that is giving me a few issues when I set the speed to 45. I use two belts on the platter. The pulley and spindle have been lubed.
The issues only occur when I try the 45 speed, the 33 speed work fine.
The problem is as follows:
1. With the ADS powered ON and the ADS start switch set to ON and the ADS speed set to 45 and the turntable start switch set to OFF
a. The issue is when I depress the turntable switch to ON the platter does not start spinning. Sometimes it starts spinning, but very slowly if at all and then stops
b. Also, a noise comes from the pulley area
2. None of these issues occur when the ADS is powered ON and the ADS speed set to 45 and the ADS start switch is set to OFF and the turntable switch set to ON
a. When I depress the ADS start switch set to ON the platter start spinning without any issues
Hope this makes sense!
Any suggestions on how to correct the problem will be greatly appreciated
Although not written in the manual, one should always start the table at 33.33 and then switch on the fly to 45rpm. This will not stress the belts and motor.
As to your immedite concern, when the ADS is initially powered on it outputs full power and ramps down for a quieter operation. When you engage ADS from the motor switch with the ADS powered on, you are starting the motor at the ramped down power setting. This is normal.
