Hello Guys, I had my Koetsu RSP rebuilt (at Koetsu last year). After extensive SRA dial in with WallyScope , USB microscope and WallyReference I have ended up with tail pretty low. I am using a 12” Uni Fatboy(side note the FatBoy head has some angle to it to begin with) I was wondering if there are any Koetsu users out there that also have tail pretty low?
I ended up with a 2.74 degree shim to dial things in. My cantilever is at about 18 degrees. JR says about 60% of carts have issues with correct SRA out of the box. Also, I hate to ask this but I do not have talent listening and dialing in VTA(more power to those of you that have that ability:0), how do you tell if you have correct SRA(or VTA) other than using scopes?
Best,
Mike in Austin
Good luck with this, Mike. I think some of this depends on the cart. Some seem to demonstrate easy to hear differences with VTA change (usually in the area of high frequency purity and smoothness, at least in my experience), other carts not so much. I’m like you - I use tools (USB scope, AnalogMagik, etc) to get the best alignment I can and then mostly just hope I did it right. My Benz LP-S, as an example, does not exhibit and significant sonic change when I move the VTA relative to its final aligned position.
