Do Match Statistics Change How You Watch Football?

I realized recently that I watch football very differently now compared to a few years ago. Instead of focusing only on goals, I find myself constantly checking possession, shots, and expected goals. It almost feels like stats shape my emotional reaction to the game. Sometimes the numbers say one thing, but the match feels completely different. I’m curious if others experience this too and whether detailed stats improve enjoyment or make matches feel more analytical than exciting.

Last season I was following three different tournaments simultaneously and it quickly became confusing trying to remember who was playing where and when, so I ended up comparing different data sources and stumbled across live football on TV in some forum threads. Seeing how fixtures and results were laid out helped me plan my weekend viewing more easily and made group chats with friends more fun because we all had reliable score references.
