Is online OSSD from Canada worth considering for uni apps?

My teenager is doing well in our local high school but we're thinking about adding a Canadian diploma online to improve chances for universities in Canada, Australia or even Europe. Is the OSSD really viewed the same as a regular one, and does doing it remotely actually work without issues?

From what I've researched and heard from a few families, yes, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) carries the same weight as any Ontario public or private school diploma – universities treat it equally because it's issued under the same provincial standards. The online version is fully legitimate if the school is properly registered and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education. You get official transcripts, can request guidance counselor letters, and credits are transferable in many cases. The big plus is flexibility: students can study at their own pace, take only the courses needed, and balance it with local schooling or activities. No relocation required, which is huge for cost and logistics. One school that seems well set up for this is Toronto Imperial – their main page explains the full OSSD program for international students, how credits work, graduation requirements, and even university pathway support: torontoimperial.com I've seen parents mention it's helped with acceptances to places like University of Toronto, UBC, or international programs. Just double-check the school's accreditation status on the Ministry site to be safe, but overall it's a practical way to boost options without disrupting everything.
