Belt crazy, need help!
I have a VPI Classic Signature, which of course uses the inboard motor for (rubber) belt rotation. For years, I have been trying to upgrade this approach, but have always failed, so I've just been boiling the belts every 6 months and reusing them. MyĀ first choice would to be to somehow mount an idler wheel to the motor shaft to create a rim drive, but I'm not sure if this is possible, or what exactly I would use for the wheel. At this point, I would be thrilled just to use the surgeons silk that I bought years ago, but I can never get the knot tight enough, since I cannot move the motor. There has to be another option. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to escape the rubber belt hell in which I am trapped? Many thanks in advanceš

Ah, I was afraid of that! I am not experiencing any issues, per se, with the rubber belts, but I have no doubt that a smaller, less stretchy/compliant type of belt would yield an audible improvement. Actually, I think it was one of your posts, years ago on the old forum, that gave me the idea of using surgeons silk. But, it sounds like I'm stuck using the rubber belts. Anyways, good to hear from you Brf, and thanks for your much valued advice.
