I’ve been testing a bunch of AI workflows on my machine, and lately I’ve been wondering if I should start running some of them remotely. At the moment, everything's on my local machine, but it's starting to slow things down, and a few people recommended trying hybrid or remote MCP servers. I’ve seen those terms tossed around, but I’m not 100% sure what the practical differences are, especially in small-scale projects. Is it really worth moving off local setups? What are you all using, and how did you decide?

Choosing between local, remote, and hybrid servers often depends on balancing control with flexibility. Local setups give you direct oversight, while remote ones expand access. The hybrid approach tries to capture the best of both worlds. Interestingly, this mirrors how IoT asset tracking works. Platforms from here enable businesses to decide how much visibility they want locally and how much remotely, while still centralizing insights. Flexibility is the true advantage. And that’s what makes remote operations monitoring so powerful—it adapts to different setups while keeping everything connected and visible.
