Adding a 2nd arm to a TNT 6

I would like to add a 2nd tonearm to my TNT 6 turntable. In the old forum, there was someone who fabricated a 2nd tonearm base (a la VPi Avenger) that was secured around the left rear tower. Unfortunately I didn't save the post. Has anyone else done this or have pictures of how this was done? Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

Thanks for your generous offer to share some of the information regarding the Avenger arm board which I’ll be using to fabricate an arm board for my TNT 6. Someone on Facebook posted some of the dimensions of the Avenger arm board but I have some other questions which maybe your staff can answer:

1) How wide is the (interference) gap in the “ring” of the arm board? How much does this narrow with tightening of the screw?

2) What is the width of the “ring,” the narrowest part of the arm board (e.g. ½”)?

3) What are the dimensions of the cap head screw used to tighten the gap?

4) How is the arm board finished (painted v. sand-blasted)?

5) Diameter of the Avenger corner post/tower?

I'm designing an arm board for a 2nd arm that attaches to the left rear tower of a TNT 6, similar to ones used on the Avenger (and HRX) turntables. Can someone who owns an Avenger check some measurements for me?

1. Overall width, length and thickness of the Avenger arm board;

2. Diameter of the circular opening of the arm board and diameter of the corner post;

3. Width and length of the gap in the “ring” of the arm board that narrows with tightening of the screw;

4. Size of the screw.

Would greatly appreciate any help you can provide and thank you in advance for your time.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've seen similar arm boards for the Avenger and a HRX (custom?) but not for the TNT series. One critical dimension is the circumference of the opening in the arm board that, when clamped down with a screw, would secure the arm board to the TNT tower. I wouldn't know where to start to get one fabricated. A specialist machinist?

You can take a picture of the VPI armboard along with the diameter of the corner tower and have one manufactured. You will also need to measure and tap the arm board for the tonearm that you are planning to use. Yes, there are some technical aspects to get this done and not everyone has the same comfort level with DIY. If you are using a VPI Uni-pivot, you can always purchase an additional arm.

Thanks for that advice. What type of shop would do the custom fabrication? Does VPI paint or anodize the final finish on their arm bases/boards (e.g. Avenger)?

Assuming you don't want to drill into the plinth, the only effective way to amount a second arm on a TNT is to use the back left rear corner tower and have an outrigger arm board fabricated that clamps to the stainless steel portion of the tower. Pictured below is an example. Also, you can use a standalone tonearm pod.
