Has anyone come up with a good way of replacing the foam strips on the interior of the peripheral ring? In the past the strips came off pretty easily and you could just stick on the replacements, but apparently VPI changed vendors so now the fuzz all tears off leaving the adhesive strip stuck very, very firmly to the ring and it takes about a day of scraping at it with a plastic spudger to get it to come off, and then you have to do the next…

Just went through the pad replacement process and had the same issue. Found that a few drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid on the stuck remnants, letting it soak, using a fingernail to scrap off what you can then running the hottest water out of the faucet onto the surface, then doing a final fingernail scrape, removed it all. I had tried alcohol, Goo Gone and heat gun, none of which worked very well. The Dawn method worked like a charm for me.
I've used naphtha to dissolve adhesives with success. It is fairly benign to most finishes.
Goo Gone work well to dissolve old adhesive.
