Women in data: growth challenges

I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately. I work as a junior data analyst in a mid-sized company, and while I really enjoy the technical side of things, I sometimes feel stuck when it comes to growth. A few months ago, I was the only woman in a project meeting about a new ML pipeline. Nobody was rude, but I felt like I had to prove myself twice as much just to be heard. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m trying to understand whether this is just part of being early in your career or if it’s something many women in data go through. How do you push forward without burning out?

From what I’ve seen, you’re definitely not alone. I’ve been in data engineering for about six years now, and in the beginning I had similar moments. It wasn’t always obvious bias, more like subtle doubts or being interrupted more often. What helped me was building a small circle of other women in tech to exchange experiences and tips. I also found some useful perspectives in articles like this one https://www.womentech.net/breaking-ai-ml-tips-tech-savvy-women-2025 — it talks about practical growth strategies and confidence in AI/ML fields. For me, continuous learning and documenting my achievements made a huge difference during performance reviews. Over time, results speak louder than anything else, but having support along the way really matters.
