VPI 299D Help

Hello,

I have a 299D which is a few years old, and the led input indicator no longer illuminates when the amp is power on. It will light up once the input selector has been turned to an input. Is this a capacitor issue within the selector circuit?

Thanks,

Kim

Well, what you're describing doesn't sound like a typical capacitor failure. If the LED input indicator on your 299D only lights up after an input is selected—rather than at power-on—it’s more likely related to the logic or control circuitry that manages the input display, possibly involving a relay, switch contact, or microcontroller function, rather than a failed capacitor.

That said, it's not entirely out of the question—aging electrolytic capacitors in the control circuit can cause 5207418 timing or voltage regulation issues that may affect how indicators behave. However, the fact that it still works after switching inputs suggests the system is receiving power and likely functioning, just with a delay or miscommunication at startup.

If you’re comfortable opening the unit, a visual inspection of the selector circuit for any bulging or leaking capacitors could be worthwhile. Otherwise, a tech familiar with this model should be able to isolate the fault pretty quickly.
