When My Family Saved My Life

This past week, I experienced a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), often referred to as a "mini-stroke." It was one of the most frightening and life-changing experiences of my life and a powerful reminder of how quickly everything can change.
I am incredibly fortunate and grateful to my daughter, Shyla, who noticed subtle changes in my speech and behavior. Like many parents, I initially brushed it off and focused on everything except my own health. Thankfully, she persisted, and I listened. Her quick thinking and determination may very well have saved my life.

I am equally grateful to my wife, Jane, my family, and our dear family friend, Chanya, who stepped in to care for our children throughout this difficult time. Their love, support, and willingness to act immediately made all the difference. From the first symptoms to receiving treatment, the response was remarkably fast. Thanks to their quick actions and the incredible medical professionals who cared for me, I received the treatment I needed and spent the remainder of the week recovering in the hospital before being released on Friday.

I am now home, resting, and focusing on recovery.

This experience has given me an even deeper appreciation for my family, who quite literally helped save my life. It has also reinforced how proud I am of the incredible team at VPI. Throughout this difficult week, our team has continued to show up, work hard, and support one another with the professionalism, dedication, and resilience that make me proud to lead this company.
I will be taking the remainder of the week to continue my recovery. The factory and office teams will continue operating without interruption, but I ask for your patience on any matters that would normally require direct involvement from me or Harry as we work through this period.
I also want to acknowledge that this has been a tremendous strain on both my family and our team, especially Harry, who has carried additional responsibilities during this time.

Finally, I cannot adequately express my appreciation to the entire VPI family and everyone who has reached out with messages, prayers, positive thoughts, and well wishes. Your support has meant more than you know.
One thing this experience has taught me is the importance of paying attention to the warning signs and listening when those around you notice something isn't right. I am grateful that my family acted quickly, and I encourage everyone to take symptoms seriously and seek medical attention immediately when something feels off.
I am incredibly grateful, blessed to have such amazing people around me, and looking forward to continuing my recovery, returning stronger, and getting back to doing what I love in the weeks ahead.
Thank you all.

This is a truly powerful reminder of how important it is to listen to our bodies and to the people who care about us. Mat’s story shows how a few moments of awareness and quick action can make a life-changing difference.
It is inspiring to see the strength of family support during such a difficult time. His daughter’s attention to the warning signs, the support from his loved ones, and the dedication of the medical team all played a crucial role in his recovery journey.
Stories like this also remind us that health should never be taken for granted. Taking symptoms seriously and acting quickly can be incredibly important. Wishing Mat a full recovery, renewed strength, and many more healthy…
